8 Tips for Making the Most of Your Mini Family Photography Session

5/24/19

I wholeheartedly believe photography is the greatest medium for storytelling. I also believe investing in family portraiture can be the most beautiful familial bonding experience!

For families with younger kiddos, I often with recommend a Family Mini-Session. Although it is a mini-session I promise we will capture so many adorable moments. The biggest compliment I always hear from my clients is, “Whoa! There are so many great photos! How will I ever choose which ones to frame!?!?” or “We don’t have enough walls in our home for all of these photos!”

Being prepared and ready for your family session will help make sure everyone is in the best of moods & ready to flash their smiles for the camera!

I’m here to help make your family portrait session planning easier,

fun, and an overall huge success!

Here are my 8 Tips for Making the Most of Your Family Mini Photography Session:

  1. Set Your Intention for Your Session!  Where will you use these photos? Are you looking for more candid or formal.  Feel free to express your hopes and dreams for the session when you arrive.
  2. Dress to Impress!  Outfit prep is so important! Decide on your outfits beforehand, don’t wait until the day of the session. Don’t be afraid to be bold and show off your personality and your aesthetic!
  3. Get to Know Me! I have both a personal and a business account on instagram where I share behind-the-scenes from my sessions, weddings, and my life at home with my husband, 2 dogs, and 34 houseplants. I highly encourage taking a moment to get to know me! Feel free to start a conversation & start feeling more comfortable with being vulnerable to “be yourself” during our upcoming session!
  4. Loosen Up!  This is the time to really have fun! These photos will be a reflection of you, your family, your baby, your pets, etc! You want these photos to bring out all the good vibes!
  5. Don’t keep the shoot a secret!  Tell your friends and family about your upcoming family session! This will help you get excited and feel less stressed on the day of the session! Feel free to get advice from your peers and family regarding your outfit choices!
  6. Come Fed, Hydrated, & Happy!  If you (or your kiddos) are dehydrated, “hangry”, or stressed this will most likely show up in your photos. If you have kiddos, come prepared with snacks, their favorite toys, and your best singing voice! Singing songs to young kiddos is an excellent ways to guarantee some smiles!
  7. Be Prepared to Get Close!  I will be getting close to capture special moments and all angles of you and your personality! If you are doing a session with your kiddos, be prepared for hugs, tickling, jokes, singing, jumping, and some smooches!
  8. Show Up On Time & Ready to Rock!  Please show up on time or even a few minutes early so you can do last minute hair prep, diaper changes, or even let your kiddo get comfortable with the environment.

I am so excited to work with you and capture incredible photos!
