Katie + Kris + Sloane + Mack Retzer Nature Center Wisconsin Family Photography

9/17/20

I’ve been photographing this family since 2012! It all started in 2012 with Katie + Kris’ engagement session. Then their wedding September 14, 2013. Then their daughter Sloane photos session a few years later. And, now in 2020, on September 14th, 2020 on K+K’s 7 Year Wedding Anniversary! Jeeze, time flies!! Keep scrolling and you’ll see how fast seven years fly by.

If you’ve ever been to Retzer Nature Center in Waukesha, you know it’s one of those spots that just gets families. The tall grass, the winding trails, the little pockets of glowy light you’d miss if you weren’t paying attention… it’s basically my playground as a photographer.

We hit three of my favorite Retzer corners… the tall prairie grass, the tree line that always gives me this cool shadow-to-sun transition, and the little hill that catches light hour like it was designed for photographers. Every spot brought out something different in their kids… curiosity, play and those quiet snuggle moments I swear parents don’t get enough of.

I delivered over 100 edited images from this session. Not because I “overshoot,” but because I refuse to decide which version of your life matters more than another. The goofy ones, the still ones, the running-full-speed ones… they tell the story together. That’s the whole point.

If you want photos at Retzer, start thinking ahead now. My fall calendar usually fills by July, and this location always goes first because it works for toddlers, teens, and everyone in between. Your kids won’t be this exact combination of ages again. And Retzer doesn’t look the same two weeks in a row. When those two things line up, magic usually happens.

FAQs About Working With Me (Ren Lenhof, Studio 29 Photography)

Where are you based?

I live in Milwaukee and split most of my sessions between Mequon, Bay View, Wauwatosa, and Waukesha. Retzer is one of my go-to spots!!

How long have you been a photographer?

I shot my first wedding in 2005 and officially started Studio 29 Photography in 2010. That’s 18+ years of photographing families, newborns, weddings, brands… and now raising my own little guy while I work.

What’s your editing style?

Clean, emotional, true-to-the-moment. I don’t do trendy filters or over-stylized looks. I want your photos to still look good in 10 years.

How many images do we get?

Usually 50-100+ for a standard family session. I don’t cap the gallery. If it matters, it goes in your gallery!!!

Do you help with outfits?

Yes… and I’m very opinionated about it in all the best ways. I’ll send you real guidance (not Pinterest overwhelm) and help you get everyone feeling like themselves.

What happens if my kids don’t cooperate?

They will. Because I don’t force them into stiff poses or “say cheese” moments. I follow their energy, their curiosity, and their pace. Some of the best galleries I’ve ever delivered came from kids who “weren’t in the mood.”

How far in advance should we book?

Fall fills the fastest, often 3–4 months ahead. Spring and summer are more flexible, but if you want a weekend… reach out early.

Do you photograph big families or extended sessions?

Absolutely. The only thing that changes is the amount of wrangling I do behind the scenes.

How do I book you?
