Baby Luciana Milwaukee Newborn Photos With Dogs

4/28/25

The moment baby Lucina’s three furry siblings trotted into the studio, I knew it was going to be a session for the books. Her tiny newborn coos were matched only by the soft snuffles of her doggy brothers and sisters, each curious and gentle as they circled around their newest family member.

Including Your Dogs in Your Newborn Photos? Yes, Please!

Let me tell you, this session was adorable overload in the best way. We had one pup lounging protectively near Lucina, another standing proud and alert behind her like a tiny four-legged guardian, and the third just living his best life curled up beside her like a fluffy stuffed animal. It was chaos… but the best kind. The kind that turns into cherished memories and frame-worthy portraits.

If you’re a new (or soon-to-be) Mom in Milwaukee Wisconsin and your dogs are basically your firstborns, this post is for you.

Why Include Your Dogs in Your Newborn Photos?

Because they’re part of the family. That’s the short answer.

But also? Because those first few weeks of newborn life are full of tenderness and transition, not just for you and your baby, but for your dogs too. They’re adjusting to new smells, sounds, routines… and they’re probably wondering who this tiny human is and why she gets all the cuddles now.

Including them in your newborn session honors that bond and documents the beginning of a brand-new chapter for everyone.

How to Successfully Include Your Dog(s) in a Newborn Session

Here are a few tried-and-true tips I share with all my Studio 29 clients when dogs are joining the newborn party:

1. Bring Treats, Leashes, and a Sense of Humor

Dogs are unpredictable. Some want to be front and center, others get camera-shy. Bringing their favorite treats, toys, and a leash (even just for positioning) makes things smoother. And trust me, a little humor goes a long way when someone decides to photobomb the baby snuggle shot.

2. Schedule the Session Around Their Energy

If your pup is calmer after a morning walk, we’ll plan the session accordingly. Tired dogs are usually more cooperative (and more likely to lounge like royalty next to your little one).

3. Safety First, Always

Your baby’s safety is my #1 priority. We’ll never force a pose or push a dog too close if they seem uncomfortable. I often photograph composite images (where I combine shots in editing) to make it look like baby and dog were super close, even if they weren’t.

4. Go with the Flow

Sometimes the best photos happen in the in-between moments. A nose nudge here, a curious paw there. We let your dogs be themselves and capture the magic as it unfolds.

In-Studio or In-Home: Which is Better?

Honestly? It depends on your vibe.

  • In-studio sessions are more controlled. Perfect lighting, curated props, and a clean, cozy space where we can create timeless portraits without worrying about household distractions. It’s ideal for families who want a peaceful, neutral backdrop.
  • In-home sessions are all about comfort and connection. Your dogs are in their element, and your newborn is surrounded by familiar sights and smells. These sessions feel documentary-style—real, relaxed, and beautifully intimate.

Whichever you choose, I’ve got you.

FAQ: Dogs in Newborn Photos

1. Is it safe to include my dog in a newborn session?
Absolutely. Safety is always the top priority. We’ll go at your dog’s pace and use safe posing techniques, including composites when needed.

2. What if my dog is nervous or hyper?
That’s okay! I’ve worked with all kinds of pups. We’ll take breaks, use treats, and keep expectations flexible. Sometimes the candid, goofy shots are the most treasured.

3. Should I groom my dog before the session?
If possible, yes. A quick bath and brush can help your pup look their best.

4. What should we all wear?
Neutral tones work beautifully. Soft textures like knits and cottons look great on camera. Avoid super bright colors or loud patterns.

5. Can you include dogs in both in-studio and in-home sessions?
Yes! Both options are dog-friendly. Let me know your dog’s personality and we’ll plan accordingly.

6. How do I book a newborn session with my dog?
Easy! Visit Foto-29.com fill out the inquiry form, and mention your pet(s) in the notes. I’ll be in touch to chat more about your vision.

How absolutely adorable is baby Lucina!? I love that her mom and dad brought her 3 doggy siblings along for her newborn photography session.
