Let’s skip the fluffy intro and get real: I was on the edge. Like, staring-into-the-abyss, questioning-my-life-choices kind of edge. My calendar was full, but my energy was tanking. The passion I once had for photography started to feel like a heavy weight I had to drag through every day. Sound familiar?
If you’ve ever found yourself Googling “how to stop feeling burned out as a photographer” at 2am or fantasizing about switching careers because you just can’t take one more edit, you are so not alone. Burnout doesn’t just sneak up on you… it pounces, usually after months (or years) of saying yes to everything, trying to do it all yourself, and not leaving enough space to breathe.
But here’s what changed everything for me…
The Plot Twist (AKA: I Asked for Help)
I didn’t have a magical wake-up moment. I didn’t take a three-month sabbatical and return enlightened. What actually changed everything was deciding to get help.
I found a mentor. Someone who not only listened to me but looked at my business from the outside and said, “Hey Ren… what if you didn’t have to do it this way?”
I stripped my offers down to what felt fun. I adjusted my pricing. And, most importantly, I worked on the behind-the-scenes stuff that nobody claps for on Instagram like boundaries, scheduling, and actually resting without guilt.
I hadn’t realized how burnout had slowly chipped away at my self-worth, layering in doubt where there used to be drive. With the right support, I began to rebuild. Gently. Intentionally. One small step at a time!
So, How Do You Stay in Business Without Burning Out?
If you’re still reading, chances are you’re feeling the pressure too. Here’s what I’ve learned (the hard way, so you don’t have to):
1. Burnout Is a Clue, Not a Failure
It’s your brain and body waving a giant red flag that says, “Hey friend, something’s not working.” Instead of bulldozing through, pause. Ask yourself what’s actually draining you. (Spoiler: it might not be the work itself.)
2. Your Offers Should Serve You, Too
If every package you offer feels like a sprint with no finish line, it’s time to reassess. Simplify. Raise your rates. Say no. The right clients will still come—and they’ll respect your boundaries even more.
3. Confidence Isn’t a Personality Trait, It’s a Muscle
And like any muscle, it needs training. That’s where mentorship changed my game. I didn’t need someone to tell me what to do. I needed someone to walk beside me while I figured it out.
4. Community Over Isolation, Always
Isolation is burnout’s best friend. The moment I started connecting regularly with someone who got it, the weight lifted. Whether it’s a friend, a mentor, or a mastermind, don’t go it alone.
5. Give Yourself Permission to Rest Without Earning It
Read that again. You don’t have to earn your rest. You don’t have to prove your productivity to deserve a break. You are allowed to rest, period.

This Is What I Help My Clients Do
Women don’t work with me because they have a dream, they work with me because they’ve made a decision to make their dream their new reality!
A decision to learn, grow, and succeed without burning themselves out.
When you work with me 1:1, you’re not getting another course to log into and forget. You’re getting me on the other end of the line, in your corner, on your team. I’m not untouchable. I’m human enough to cry with you on Zoom. To roll up my sleeves and get in the trenches with you. To help you untangle the overwhelm and lead you through until it finally clicks.
And yes, you better believe I’m sharing what’s working in my business this week on our live training calls. Because what’s the point of learning from someone if they’re not actively doing the thing?!

FAQs: Burnout, Business, and Finding Your Spark Again
1) What causes burnout in photography businesses?
Burnout often stems from overbooking, undercharging, lack of boundaries, and working in isolation. It’s not laziness, it’s a sign your current setup isn’t sustainable.
2) How do I know if I need a mentor?
If you’re stuck in the same loop, doubting yourself, or feel like you’re doing everything and getting nowhere, a mentor can provide clarity, strategy, and actual support.
3) What makes your 1:1 mentoring different?
It’s personal. It’s real-time. I don’t hand you a PDF and disappear. I show up weekly with live trainings based on what’s working now in my own business and help you apply it to yours.
4) Can I recover from burnout and still love photography?
Yes. 1,000% yes. Burnout doesn’t mean you’re not cut out for this. It means you need to make changes and those changes are possible.
5) What’s one small step I can take today?
Ask yourself honestly: What’s one thing that’s draining me right now? And what would it look like to change it? Start there. (And if you want support… you know where to find me! Email me HERE or let’s connect on Instagram)
Burnout doesn’t have to be the end of your photography business story. Sometimes, it’s the beginning of a better one. And if you’re ready to turn the page, I’d love to mentor you through it.
