Last night, I pulled out the ice bin from our wedding, filled it with all-natural bubble bath, tossed in a few rubber duckies, grabbed some mums from the yard… and boom. A simple evening turned into one of my favorite photos of Baby Lake to date!!
Here’s the thing: you don’t need a Pinterest-perfect backdrop or expensive props to create photos you’ll treasure forever. You just need a little creativity and the confidence to use your camera settings with intention.
My Exact Set Up for this Adorable Backyard Bubble Bath Photo Shoot:
- TruKid Bubble Podz
- Rubber Duckies
- Yellow & White Mums
- Nikon Z7ii
- Nikon NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S
- ISO 200, 90 mm, f/2,8, 1/400, WB 7,414K
All I used:
✔️ Ice bin from our wedding
✔️ All natural bubble bath
✔️ Rubber duckies
✔️ Mums from the garden center
👉 You don’t need much to create gorgeous photos in your own backyard!! Just creativity + light + the right settings!!
My Settings for This Shot
- ISO: 200
- Lens: 90mm
- Aperture: f/2.8
- Shutter speed: 1/400
- White balance (Kelvin): 7414K
Why These Settings Worked
- Shutter Speed 1/400 → Froze Lake’s laugh and all the little splashes of water without blur.
- Aperture f/2.8 → Created that creamy background blur while keeping Lake tack-sharp.
- White Balance 7414K → Matched the golden evening light, keeping skin tones warm and natural.
- ISO 200 → Kept the image clean and crisp with no unnecessary noise.
It’s not about having the fanciest gear or shooting in a studio. It’s about knowing how to set up your camera so you can capture the moment as it feels.
The Bigger Lesson
I could’ve missed this photo if I didn’t know how to quickly set my camera.
Instead, I got a memory that feels as good as it looked in real life.
That’s what I want other moms to experience: the ability to grab their camera, dial in the right settings, and capture their kids in a way that makes them proud.
Inside The Momtographer Method
This is exactly what I teach inside my 12-week mentorship program:
✔️ How to master your camera (manual mode finally makes sense)
✔️ How to edit with consistency so your photos look professional
✔️ How to create a portfolio that makes people stop scrolling
✔️ How to package your skills into offers people will actually pay for
It’s week-by-week, with real critiques, a 1:1 call with me, and a small community of other women walking the same journey.
Whether you just want better photos of your kids or you’re ready to start booking clients, The Momtographer Method gives you the skills and confidence to get there.
