I don’t talk about this a lot, but becoming a mother changed the way I photograph families. And now, because of it, Studio 29 Photography families are getting so much more from their sessions with me.
Before Lake was born, I already believed family photos mattered, but it wasn’t until after he arrived that I really, truly understood why printed photos matter so much!
What Exactly Happened & Why That Changed Everything for Me
One evening last fall, Caleb was making dinner (homemade chicken tenders), and Lake was sitting on the floor in our living room push his cars down the track.
He was pointing at the pictures in the frames and he kept saying “Mama” and touching the photo of me holding him when we went to the flower farm together. And at that moment, he was already 13 months old, walking around the house and climbing onto the couch by himself. The baby in that photo already felt like a different version of him!! **gasp** He’s growing up in light speed and I’m emotional about it and also SO proud of him and love him so much for who he is today.
Fast forward to today, and he points out Mama, Dada, Mee Mee, Papa, Grand Daddy, Grandma, Monkey, and Kenzo in the pictures we have around the house and it melts my heart every time! He loves seeing himself too, “babeeee.” Children really do love and learn from seeing their life in photos around the home.

What I believed at the time…
Before I became a mom, I thought photographs were important because they captured memories.
That’s what photographers always say. But sitting there watching my son look at that photo and touch it repeatedly, I realized something deeper: photographs don’t just capture memories. They help create them, too!!
Children learn their story by seeing it in photos around the home. They see the photo on the wall, the album on the coffee table, and themselves surrounded by the people who love them.
What Changed for Me and Why it Matters to My Family Session Clients
That moment made something very clear to me. The photos that matter most are the ones that live inside the home.
They aren’t buried in a phone or saved in a folder on my desktop or in the cloud. The photos that are showcased in our homes for our children and is the constant proof that they are safe, welcomed, and loved are the ones your kids walk past every day.
I always want Lake growing up in a home where he can stop and point at and ask me questions about, and I want that for you and your children, too!

Heirloom Coffee Table Albums
All this shapes how I photograph Studio 29 Photography families now
My work is centered around finished printed artwork because it means so much more than you might think! When I photograph a family, I’m already thinking about where those images will live.
- The wall your children run past on their way to breakfast.
- The coffee album sitting on your coffee table ten years from now.
- The photographs your kids will someday show their own families.
Because childhood moves quickly, but when those moments live on the walls of your home, they become part of your family’s story every single day.
Studio 29 Photography creates finished artwork for design conscious parents who know if they are going to do something they want it done right!
