6 Tips For Parents For A Successful Newborn Photo Session

May 11, 2021

Growing your family is an exciting time in your life. Welcoming a child into the world is life-changing and will surely put a smile on your face. One to-do you’re going to want to add to your list is to schedule a newborn photo session.

You want to make sure you capture your little baby as they are when they’re just born. It’ll be wonderful to have these pictures to look back on one day in the future so you can remember how little and precious they once were. These photo sessions don’t have to be stressful. They can be fun and enjoyable when you apply the following tips and properly prepare for the big day.

6 Tips For Parents For A Successful Newborn Photo Session

1. Brainstorm Location & Photo Ideas

It’s important that you think ahead and start brainstorming location and photo ideas right away. Decide if you want to have the photographer in your home or if you prefer to go outside or to a studio. Either way, you should ensure you browse and choose the right Photography Backdrops to have as part of your newborn photo session. Work with your photographer to ensure you discuss the best location and poses ahead of time so you’re prepared when the time rolls around to start shooting the camera.

2. Prepare Your Outfits

Another tip for parents for a successful newborn photo session is to prepare all your outfits in advance. Look for ideas online to see what other families wear and ask your photographer for suggestions. However, also take into account your personal taste and style. You’ll not only need to have different outfits for your newborn but also for you, your spouse, and any other children you have. Coordinate colors and make sure that you’re choosing clothes that will look good in pictures. You’ll also want to focus on keeping your baby warm throughout the photo session.

3. Take Breaks

If you want to have a smooth newborn photo session then you’ll want to make sure that you have some time to take a few breaks. You may need to feed your baby or simply want to take a break from smiling and posing. A quick feeding and some cuddling may help put your newborn at ease again if you notice they’re fussing a lot. Keep extra wipes, diapers, and a change of clothes nearby since babies do tend to have accidents or spit up often. A few breaks will help ensure the session goes well and that you capture all the different moments and poses you desire.

4. Use Props & Include the Pets

If you want to have a successful newborn session then think about what props you want to use and having your pets around for the camera. You’ll be glad you took a few with your pets or dogs when you look back on these photos later on. Your photographer will likely want to capture a few candid moments with the entire family that you’ll find to be quite enjoyable and fun. It can also be cute to use a variety of props with your newborn. Do some research ahead of time and talk to your photographer about ideas he or she has about what to use or not use.

5. Get Some Sleep & Rest Prior

If there’s one task you should add to your to-do list for having a successful newborn photo session it’s to get as much sleep and rest prior to the shoot as possible. While it can be tricky with a newborn, make sure you pick a day and time that works for you and where you can rest up before you have to get in front of the camera. The more sleep you get the fewer dark circles you’ll have to deal with and cover-up before the photo session starts. Also, the better mood you’ll all be in and more fun it’ll be overall.

6. Relax & Have Fun

Nothing or no one is perfect so avoid setting too high of expectations for your newborn photo session. What’s most important is that you’re all relaxed in front of the camera and enjoying one another’s company. Maybe try a few practice shots with the photographer before you officially begin to release any nerves or anxiety you’re feeling. Although you’re the parent, it’s best to release some of the control and hand it over to the photographer who’s a professional and can ensure your newborn pictures turn out to your liking. Therefore, relax and have fun and enjoy yourselves because the session will go by fast.
