1. The Green Room

The Green Room is my first choice for couples who want bright, natural wedding photos without relying on the weather.

It is located inside the historic Lincoln Warehouse in Bay View (which is a cool vibe in itself.) The Green Room is a private, 1,000-square-foot natural-light photography studio filled with more than 150 live plants, neutral furniture, large windows, and multiple portrait areas. The north- and east-facing windows give us consistent, flattering light throughout the day. You get the brightness and greenery of an outdoor location without standing in the rain, snow, or wind. Everyday Studio MKE is an 834-square-foot natural-light studio located near Bay View.

The space includes white walls, floor-to-ceiling exposed brick, lifestyle furniture, and south- and west-facing windows. The combination of clean walls and exposed brick gives photographers a few different looks without leaving the studio.

Because the strongest light comes from the south and west, this studio may work especially well for afternoon portraits. Your photographer should consider the wedding timeline and sunset when deciding whether the space fits your plans.

4. Studio North MKE

Studio North MKE is a bright industrial photography studio with large south- and west-facing windows.

Why Rent a Photography Studio for Wedding Pictures?

Hotel lobbies, museums, libraries, and public buildings are beautiful, but they come with restrictions.

You may need a permit,  another wedding party may already be there, it may be full of people, security may limit where your photographer can work and you may have tourists, hotel guests, or members of the public moving through every photograph.

But, renting out a photography studio or small event space gives you so much more control over the time, where you can photograph, and having a safe and secure space to place bouquets, coats, phones, purses, and emergency bags. Your wedding party has somewhere comfortable to wait between groupings.

What Should You Look for in an Indoor Wedding Photo Location?

Natural light

Ask which direction the windows face and what the light looks like during your portrait time. A studio that looks bright at 4:00 p.m. may look completely different at 10:00 a.m.

For a winter wedding, I would treat the studio as part of the original wedding plan instead of a last-minute backup. Even when it is not snowing, low temperatures and wind can make it difficult to keep everyone comfortable outside.

For spring, summer, and fall weddings, reserving a studio gives you a firm rain plan. When the wedding week arrives, you can focus on getting married instead of refreshing the weather app every twenty minutes.

How Much Time Do We Need for Indoor Wedding Portraits?

The answer depends on the size of your wedding party and the number of family combinations you want. A simple first look and couple’s portraits may take approximately 30 minutes. A full set of couple, wedding-party, and immediate-family photographs may require 60 to 90 minutes.

Remember to include:
