Tricia’s Troops Cancer Connection // Studio 29 Photography

7/31/14

As mentioned in yesterday’s Minneapolis family portrait post, Laura won her session via a fundraiser.
On Saturday, July 19th, Tricia’s Troops Cancer Connection had their second annual fundraising event called “Rallying the Troops” to highlight the power of the team approach to supporting cancer fighters in our community. It was held at the Johnson Controls Stadium Club at Miller Park and included a team photo scavenger hunt and tour of the ballpark, a Brewers-style tailgate luncheon, an appearance by Green Bay Packers great Gilbert Brown, a program honoring the organization’s MVP’s, silent/live auctions and other opportunities to tackle the challenges of cancer as a team. To check out photos from the event, visit https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.727717267264879.1073741837.164923836877561&type=1
More than 200 people were in attendance and joined together to raise $61,000 toward the programs and services at Tricia’s Troops, which focus on the practical concerns, out of pocket costs and daily living needs that arise from living with cancer.
The executive director is Candice Strong, a bride who utilized Studio 29 Photography for her wedding in 2013. Tricia’s Troops Cancer Connection was founded by Candice’s late sister who battled stage IV colon cancer at the age of 35 and intimately experienced the challenges of being a wife and raising two young girls with a serious illness. Before she passed, she felt compelled to create an organization that surrounded other cancer fighters in the community with a strong system of support on their cancer journey. Tricia’s legacy continues thanks to all of the TROOPS backing the organization and they continue to provide financial assistance and other free services to minimize the stresses of transportation costs, laundry, meals, housekeeping and much for more people undergoing cancer treatment throughout southeast Wisconsin.
To learn more about the organization, visit their website at www.triciastroops.org and their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/pages/Tricias-Troops-Cancer-Connection/164923836877561 to learn of upcoming events and how to get involved.
Thank you Candice for all of this wonderful information!
